Fleet Preventive Maintenance in Charlotte

Truck Pit Stop runs preventive maintenance (PM) programs for fleets at our Matthews, NC shop near Charlotte. We schedule PM visits around each truck's mileage or hours and the manufacturer's service intervals, inspect and service the truck and trailer, and tell you what needs attention before it turns into a breakdown.
Scheduled Around Your Fleet
We plan each truck's PM by mileage or engine hours and the engine and component makers' recommendations, so trucks come in on schedule instead of on a tow truck.
Inspection and Service in One Visit
Oil and filters, fuel filters, chassis lube, brakes and air system, tires and wheels, lights, belts, hoses and fluid leaks are checked in the same visit.
Repairs Found Early
When a PM turns up worn brakes, a leaking air line or a tire wearing unevenly, we explain it and quote the repair so you can approve it while the truck is already here.
Records You Can Use
We document what was inspected, serviced and repaired, which helps you keep the maintenance records federal rules require.

What a Fleet PM Program at Truck Pit Stop Covers

Motor carriers are required to systematically inspect, repair and maintain the vehicles they operate and to keep records of that work (49 CFR 396.3). A PM program turns that requirement into a schedule: each truck comes in at set intervals, gets the same inspection and service, and leaves with a record of what was done.

What a PM visit includes

Engine oil and filter, fuel filters and air filter checks; chassis lubrication; brake and air system inspection, including brake adjustment and air leaks; tires, wheels and wheel ends; lights and electrical; steering and suspension; belts, hoses and coolant; fluid leaks; and the service items the engine and transmission makers call for at that interval. Trailers can be inspected in the same visit.

How we schedule it

The right interval depends on the truck, the engine, mileage or hours and how the truck is used. We set the schedule with you and plan visits so trucks spend as little time out of service as possible. Most PM work is finished the same day.

PM and the annual DOT inspection

PM is maintenance. The annual periodic inspection is a separate federal requirement, but the two can be done in the same visit to save a trip. See our DOT inspection page. For what to bring and what a PM covers, read our semi truck PM service checklist.

When a PM finds a repair

We explain what we found and quote it before any repair begins, then handle it here: brakes, tires, DPF and aftertreatment, engine or alignment work.

Questions Fleets Ask About Preventive Maintenance

Do you offer PM programs for fleets?

Yes. We run preventive maintenance programs for fleets at our Matthews, NC shop near Charlotte, and we also handle PM for owner-operators.

How often should a semi truck get PM service?

It depends on the engine, the truck, mileage or hours and how the truck is used. We set intervals with you based on the engine and component makers' recommendations.

Can you do the annual DOT inspection during a PM visit?

Yes. PM and the annual DOT inspection are separate, but we can do both in the same visit so the truck only comes in once.

How long does a PM take?

Most PM work is finished the same day. If the PM turns up a repair that needs parts ordered in, we finish it first thing the next business morning and tell you upfront if a part will take longer.

Do you work on all makes in a mixed fleet?

Yes. We work on Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Mack, Peterbilt, Volvo and Western Star trucks, plus trailers.
